BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 22-year-old Buffalo woman plead guilty before an Erie County Court judge on Tuesday, May 14 to one count of manslaughter in the second degree.
In a release shared by the Erie County District Attorney's Office, officials say that Teiyahna Bivens fatally stabbed her boyfriend on Sunday, July 23 2023.
Bivens and her boyfriend 23-year-old Micqueal Rogers had been in the area of Gerhardt and Northampton Street in the City of Buffalo around 5 p.m. when she stabbed him in the chest with a knife.
Rogers was taken to ECMC where he was reported to have died from his injuries.
A plea of a reduced charge was offered to Bivens with the consent of the victim's family and under the condition that she would waive her right to a Penal Law hearing. The hearing would have allowed Bivens to argue that she was a victim of domestic violence and could have given her a reduced sentence for her conviction.
When Bivens returns to court for sentencing in July she will face a maximum of 15-years in prison. Until then she remains released on a bail set at 200,000 cash, bond or partially secured surety bond.
