BUFFALO, N.Y. - – U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced Friday that a woman from Delaware was arrested after she attempted to smuggle marijuana into the U.S. from Canada.
Dasiah Danae Cooper, 23, of New Castle, Delaware, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with possession and importation of a controlled substance, and smuggling goods into the United States.
Cooper was a passenger in the vehicle when it was at the Peace Bridge and stated that she did not have any drugs, weapons, or prohibited items in her possession.
During a secondary inspection of the vehicle, a narcotics canine detected an odor on the passenger floor area. A search of the floor area resulted in the discovery of a blue plastic container with nine cigarettes containing suspected marijuana.
The charges carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
