Vandals cause damage to Hertel Avenue business

No other local businesses were damaged, and the owner says he doesn't believe his store was specifically targeted.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A local business spent the day cleaning up after it was vandalized Monday evening.

The owner of 'Wine on Hertel' says he received a message Tuesday morning that the door was smashed, leaving the store open from the outside.

No other local businesses were damaged, and the owner says he doesn't believe his store was specifically targeted.

"I want to say this was just a random act of stupidity or violence, or somebody excited last night and just wanted to throw some pumpkins around the neighborhood. That's what it appears to be, is someone just throwing a pumpkin at the window and they didn't smash it, but they got the window pretty good," said Justin Hofschneider, owner of Wine on Hertel.

Hofschneider also says the store has a functioning alarm system, but it did not go off since the person did not enter the building.

He says he is working to install cameras outside of the business.
