BUFFALO, N.Y. — A father and son from Williamsville are facing charges for allegedly crossing the Canadian border with marijuana.
Kenneth Francis Munroe, 60, and his son Kenneth Philip Munroe, 30, were arrested and charged by criminal complaint with entry of goods by means of false statements and simple possession of a controlled substance.
Two On Your Side has confirmed Kenneth Francis Munroe is the founder and owner of Munroe Chiropractic on Main Street in Williamsville.
Investigators with the US Attorney's office say the two attempted to enter the U.S. from Canada at the Peace Bridge on November 8. They say Kenneth Phillip Munroe was driving the vehicle and during the inspection, both men allegedly told a Customs and Border Protection officer that they did not have any drugs or contraband. According to the complaint, the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and ordered a secondary inspection.
Officers found two bags of suspected marijuana, which according to officers, had been concealed in Kenneth Phillip Munroe's pants and three more bags of suspected marijuana in Kenneth Francis Munroe's pants. A sixth bag of suspected marijuana had been found underneath the driver's seat.
Police say 250 grams of marijuana were recovered.
Father and son both appeared in federal court and were released. If they are convicted, they could face a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
