WEST SENECA, N.Y. — A West Seneca man will spend the next 26.5 to 29 years in prison for violating a protective order in a domestic violence case.
Investigators say Jason M. Mitchell, 44, had repeatedly violated an order of protection issued against him.
They say Mitchell had knowingly and intentionally disobeyed an order of protection on Sept. 16, 2020 by sending the victim messages through a social media website.
Similar situations continued on the Sept. 25 and 27, 2020. On Sept. 27, he went to the victim's home, and put the victim in reasonable fear of physical injury.
According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, the incidents continued on Oct. 12, Nov. 4, and again on November 26, 2020. On that date, Mitchell entered the victim's home with the intent to commit a crime. There were also children in the home at that time.
Officials say Mitchell used a sledgehammer to break through the door, and broke the victim's wrist as they attempted to hold the door shut.
Mitchel was found guilty by a jury on April 2024 on these charges below.
- Two counts of Burglary in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felonies)
- Two counts of Criminal Contempt in the First Degree (Class “E” felonies)
- Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class “A” misdemeanors)
- Three counts of Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree (Class “A” misdemeanors)
A final order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, her parents, three children, and three witnesses in the case. It remains in effect until November 2062.
