HAMBURG, N.Y. — The Town of Hamburg Police Department provided an update on the robbery of a United States Postal Carrier on August 2.
According to police, after the suspect robbed the postal carrier at 6145 McKinley Parkway around 11 am, he fled on foot to the area of East Prospect Avenue and Janice Place in Hamburg.
It was reported that the suspect took a USPS key that accesses mailboxes and drop points in the Hamburg area.
In a recent interview with 2 On Your Side, President David Grosskopf Jr. of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 3, covering Western New York said that as of July 24, "Approximately 400 letter carriers across the nation have been robbed, assaulted, and or killed in the line of duty," this year alone.
"It's an epidemic for letter carriers across the country," he continued.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately six feet tall wearing a dark blue tracksuit, with a white shirt wrapped around his head.
Hamburg Police are asking residents in this general area to review any video footage they might have to help identify the robber.
