Buffalo man pleads guilty for his role in triple shooting

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to a fatal shooting that took the life of another man and injured two others. 

Twandrell L. Dean, 25, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Erie County Court to Manslaughter in the First Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.  

Around 3 a.m. on July 22, 2023, Buffalo Police were called to a report of a shooting on Genesee Street near Mortimer Street.  They found three people shot outside of a nearby tavern.  Two of the people shot, a 33-year-old male and 44-year-old male were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.  A third victim, Devin Lockwood, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene.   

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Dean pleaded guilty for his role in the homicide for firing the shots that killed Lockwood. Dean will be sentenced Jan. 29, 2025.  He could face up to 25 years in prison. 

A co-defendant in the case, Ernest W. Brown, 41, of Buffalo, remains pending. Brown is charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.  He is currently being held without bail.  He is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 14 for a pre-trial hearing, with jury selection expected to begin in March.
