Arrest made following state police chase that ended with a car crashing into a building

State troopers say they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the 2022 Nissan Rogue did not stop, and a pursuit followed.

WHEATFIELD, N.Y. — One person was arrested following police chase that ended with a car that crashed into a building Thursday night.

The sequence of events began around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, when New York State Police were made aware of a 2022 Nissan Rogue. The vehicle was involved in a larceny complaint being investigated by the Town of Niagara Police Department, according to police.

Troopers said they spotted the vehicle heading south on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the Town of Wheatfield. Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the Nissan did not stop, and a pursuit followed.

While safety was cited for ending the pursuit, the Nissan was eventually located. It had struck the Scottish Inns at 3930 Niagara Falls Boulevard.

The person driving the Nissan — 31-year-old Jazzmyn D. Barber of Rochester — was eventually located by state police K-9 unit. Barber was charged with unlawfully fleeting, reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated: drugs, and aggravated unlicensed operator.

State police say there was a passenger in Barber's vehicle. That person fled the scene and has not been found.

Barber was processed by state police and turned over to the Town of Niagara Police in connection to the larceny case.

The investigation is ongoing.
