The man accused of setting fire to a woman over a custody dispute is facing several charges.
Erie County District Attorney John Flynn announced that Jonathan White, 28, was charged with attempted murder, assault, arson, and other crimes at ECMC on Friday afternoon.
Jessica Cameron, 25, suffered serious burns to her body and is currently in the burn unit at ECMC.
Flynn said White is Cameron's ex-boyfriend and the two lived together with their three children. Cameron recently moved out of that home and in with her mother.
Police say White texted her while she was working at Tim Hortons to come outside "to talk." The two worked at the restaurant together. When she came out to the dumpster area, he threw a flammable liquid on her and set her on fire. He then caught fire from being close to her.
"He was lying in wait by the dumpsters and somehow sprayed her with the flammable liquid and attempted to light her on fire which it did, but caught himself on fire also," said Foels.
Police also say they have responded to custody disputes at this couples home before.
When authorities arrived to the location, they found both people with full thickness burns to the front of their bodies, along with arms, hands and facial areas.
Flynn said that Cameron is not in good shape as of Friday night - her family tells 2 On Your Side's Leanne Stuck that she is still having surgeries.
The community has wrapped their arms around Cameron this holiday season - more than $19,000 has been raised to help her and her family on a GoFundMe page.
The suspect was arraigned at ECMC, where he is also recovering from burns. White is scheduled to have his first court appearance next Thursday
