GCC student accused of bringing gun on campus

Campus Safety was alerted by a social media post allegedly showing the student with what appeared to be a handgun.

BATAVIA, N.Y. — A student at Genesee Community College is facing charges for allegedly bringing a gun onto campus Sunday. 

Investigators for the Genesee County Sheriff's Office say the student allegedly had an unregistered pistol that was loaded with a high-capacity magazine while at the College Village Student Housing at the Batavia campus. Officials say that the building was used for educational purposes.  

Campus Safety was alerted by a social media post allegedly showing the student, identified as Anthony E. Parks with what appeared to be a handgun. 

Police say there is no information that indicated Parks made any threats to use the gun. 

Parks is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds. 

He was arraigned in Genesee County CAP Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $5,000 bond.
