South Buffalo bar beating has police asking the public for help

A man was badly beaten in South Buffalo. There was an altercation inside Talty's Tavern.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The brutal assault of a man in South Buffalo has the Buffalo Police Department seeking information.

Police said on Sept. 22 at Talty's Tavern on South Park Avenue, Denzel McCutcheon, 27, was beaten. The assault occurred around 2 a.m. It was reported a couple days later.

Police said the victim described the suspect as a 6-foot-tall Hispanic male with an average build.

McCutcheon's mother shared pictures with 2 On Your Side of her son's injuries.

"They fractured his nose, and at the ER they said it was a lot of small broken bones. He has a laceration across his face that had to be sutured up. He had a laceration across his nose. His head was so swollen on one side from the beating, and from someone stomping and kicking him in his face multiple times. His clothes were drenched with blood, his underclothes were ripped because they dragged him," his mother Dedra Robinson said.

"The problem that I'm having with it is that no one, not the patrons inside or the staff, thought it was OK enough to call 911, there was no police involvement. And so I went myself to the police station" to file a report, she said.

She said the beating happened inside. However, the tavern owner, Dennis Talty told Channel 2 News, "there was an argument, and pushing, and shoving. My bartenders threw all three people out that were involved, and the incident happened on the street, and I did show you the pictures of the blood that was on the street to prove that the flight was on the street, not inside the bar."

The mother said, "The decent thing to do, the most humane thing to do, whether you was outside or inside, whatever, it's just call 911."

The reason for this incident is still unclear, but there are plenty of questions and concerns from the victim's mother.

"My only issue, like I said, my son was left there after being stomped repeatedly multiple times, kicked in his face," the mother said.

She commended the South Buffalo community for reaching out to her on social media.

Her son is recovering, but there is a concern about long term effects.

"His nose bleed repeatedly because of pressure, a lot of sinus pressure, congestion, he has to drag his leg. His leg wasn't not broken, but it was repeatedly stomped," she said.

Talty's Tavern opened in 1983.

"I just celebrated my 40th anniversary in July. It's been a little stronghold in South Buffalo," the owner said.
