BATAVIA, N.Y. — The City of Batavia Police Department say they have been made aware of social media posts threatening violence at schools.
Police say there is no credible threat to the Batavia City School District.
They will be working with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to find the source of the threats.
Officials are asking anyone with information on these threats to contact the Batavia Police Department Detective Bureau at: (585)-345-6350.
They also remind folks that if you see a social media post that is suspicious to please contact police and not re-post or share that message, as that it can create unnecessary panic and hamper police efforts to investigate.
Several school districts in WNY also investigated reports of threats, as are schools across the country.
On Monday, the Clarence Central School District alerted parents and the community of hate-related and threatening graffiti made on the schools grounds Monday. An investigation found no credible threats.
Last week, Medina Central Schools and Police investigated a rumor of a threat at schools. Medina Police said there was no credible threat towards their schools, but did increase patrols around the schools.
And in the Niagara Wheatfield School District, an unknown cause triggered a lockdown alert at Niagara Wheatfield Senior High School, causing the school to go into lockdown Monday morning. Again, police found no threats towards the school and are looking into the what caused the lockdown alert.
In Niagara County, the Newfane Central School District shared a message with parents Tuesday reading "Due to some recent activity in area school districts, Newfane Central School District will have enhanced security measures today in coordination with Niagara County Sheriff's Department."
