Second driver sentenced for Hamburg crash that killed a 15-year-old girl

The second driver in a deadly Hamburg car crash from August of 2023 was sentenced on Wednesday morning by an Erie County Court Judge.
A JUDGE ALSO SENTENCED 30 YEAR OLD JUSTIN TRANE TO FIVE YEARS PROBATION

HAMBURG, N.Y. — The Erie County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday morning that a second driver has been charged in connection with a fatal Hamburg car crash that took the life of a 15-year-old in August, 2023.

The 19-year-old man from Williamsville has been sentenced to 1 to 3 years of jail time. The sentencing was over the objection of the District Attorney's Office and the victims family, that the Williamsville male was adjudicated as a youthful offender due to his age at the time of the crime.

In August, 2024 a judge sentenced 30-year-old Justin Trane to five years probation following his time behind bars.

Prosecutors said that Trane was driving drunk and that Dylan Wiza, 18, was driving high when they crashed into each other on McKinley Parkway at Quincy Drive in August of 2023.

Wiza's back seat passenger, a 15-year-old girl, was found unresponsive and later died from her injuries.

Both Trane and Wiza pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter back in May.

The crash happened around 11:50 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2023, in at the intersection of McKinley Parkway and Quinby Drive.

The Hamburg Police Department said an SUV driven by Wiza of Williamsville crashed into a van driven by Trane.

Both drivers, plus a 16-year-old and 15-year-old in the SUV, were taken to the hospital. The 15-year-old died.

In December, Wiza was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter and one count of aggravated driving while intoxicated, under the influence of cannabis. He was also charged violations for failure to yield to the right of way and crossing a highway divider.

In December, Trane was charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter two counts of driving while intoxicated, under the influence of alcohol. He was also charged with two vehicle and traffic law violations for speeding and passing through a red light.

Both Wiza and Trane were accused of contributing to the crash by the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

The Town of Hamburg Police Department Accident Investigation Unit worked on the investigation.
