GENESEE COUNTY, N.Y. — The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scammer posing as a deputy.

The scammer posing as a sergeant has been reportedly calling to advise residents of an active warrant for their arrest, requesting that money be sent to resolve it.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office notes that though they may make calls to individuals with notification of a warrant, they will never make calls requesting money being sent to any location to resolve a warrant.

If you are contacted by someone who claims to be from the sheriff's office advising of a warrant you believe to be false, please contact the sheriff's office at (585)-343-5000 immediately for verification. If you do have an active warrant, please report to the sheriff's office for assistance.
