CLARENCE, N.Y. — The superintendent for the Clarence Central School District sent a message to parents and staff at the Sheridan Hill School regarding a recent threat they are investigating.
Officials received a report around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday that there was a threatening comment found on the wall of a bathroom at the school.
The area was closed off to students and the district began investigating, along with police, Superintendent Matt Frahm said.
Frahm told parents and staff that he would provide more of an update later, but did say "we have no reason to believe the comment reflects anything more than a poor choice."
A deputy from the Erie County Sheriff's Office was at the school most of the day and offered to bring his K9 unit to do a quick sweep of the school as a precaution. Students stayed in their classrooms while the dog checked the building.
This latest threat comes after several other threats at school districts across Western New York and the country.
On Monday, the Clarence Central School District alerted parents and the community of hate-related and threatening graffiti made on the schools grounds Monday. An investigation found no credible threats and the Erie County Sheriff's Office says they are continuing to investigate the situation.
Last week, Medina Central Schools and police investigated a rumor of a threat at schools. Medina Police said there was no credible threat towards their schools, but did increase patrols around the schools.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday that a juvenile has been arrested following threats made at two Niagara County school districts.
Throughout the day on Tuesday, officials at both Newfane and Lockport shared messages with parents that their schools had been aware of a threat made to their campuses. In an effort to better keep the schools safe, the Niagara County Sheriff's Department made sure that there was an enhanced police presence at both schools. That juvenile has been charged with one count of making a threat of mass harm.
