WELLSVILLE, N.Y. — Wellsville High School made the decision Monday to cancel classes while police dealt with incident near the school.
Wellsville Police were called to handle an incident at the home of William Wojehowski, 35, on West State Street early Monday morning. Police say they received a report of gunshots being fired inside the house.
When officers arrived on the scene, they said they witnessed one shot being fired from inside the house. Police evacuated the residents from the other side of the duplex.
Officers were not sure if the Wojehowski was still in the house, so they used a drone that was equipped with a thermal imaging device from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office. They said they were able to detect that Wojehowski was still inside. Officers used a PA system to make contact with him. He eventually surrendered to police, and he was taken to Olean General to be evaluated.
Charges are pending.
