Scam alert: Parents tricked into paying for fake SAT prep materials

The Better Business Bureau is reminding parents to double check with your child or their school before giving out any personal information over the phone.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Local school districts are warning of a new scam: Tricking parents into paying for fake SAT prep materials.

Many parents have reported receiving calls from scammers, claiming to be from the college board. The scammers then request addresses and credit card information in exchange for testing materials.

The Better Business Bureau is reminding parents to double check with your child or their school before giving out any personal information over the phone.

That's not the only phone scam going around. The Erie County Sheriff's Office said it has recently received a number of reports of people receiving phone calls from someone who claims to be a member of local law enforcement.
