The Nine-Eleven Tavern working to reopen Friday

"The safety of our staff and patrons always comes first. Items can be replaced and damage can be repaired," Nine-Eleven Tavern said on social media.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Nine-Eleven Tavern was closed on Thursday, and not by choice.

The South Buffalo staple said on social media that the building was broken into Wednesday morning, and that the tavern needed more time to replace what was taken.

"These items are essential to operating, so as soon as we get everything we need we will be back open. We are hoping to be back tomorrow," Nine-Eleven Tavern posted to Facebook on Thursday afternoon.

2 On Your Side reached out to Buffalo Police seeking information. We did not immediately hear back.

"We are incredibly disheartened and saddened by this event, but at the end of the day the safety of our staff and patrons always comes first. Items can be replaced and damage can be repaired," Nine-Eleven Tavern said.

"We are just grateful that this occurred outside of business hours and that nobody was hurt during this event. Thank you for your understanding and patience while we work to get back open."
