LOCKPORT, N.Y. — A Niagara Falls woman pleaded guilty to the death of an infant Tuesday in Niagara County Court.

Samantha Klein, 31, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the first degree for causing the death of three and a half-month-old Alaya Foster. The incident occurred at a home on North Avenue in February.

“I promised Alaya’s family that my office would seek justice for their beautiful baby girl. I hope that this disposition provides them even a small amount of comfort that the person responsible for her death has admitted her guilt and will now face the consequences for her actions,” Niagara County District Attorney Caroline A. Wojtaszek stated.

Klein faces a maximum sentence of 25 years behind bars, plus five years post-release supervision.

She is scheduled to return to court for sentencing in December.
