Niagara Falls man pleads guilty in connection to fatal 2022 shooting

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — A Niagara Falls man pleaded guilty to a first-degree manslaughter charge on Friday in Niagara County Court.

Michael Hamilton, 38, admitted to shooting and killing 22-year-old Jason Chapman of Buffalo outside Wedge Liquors on Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls on July 12, 2022. It all began with a dispute inside the store, before continuing in the parking lot.

Hamilton had been arraigned in Niagara Falls City Court on July 14, 2022, when he was charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of second degree criminal possession of a weapon. 

Hamilton faces up to 25 years in prison when he's sentenced on Jan. 25.
