NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. — On Sunday, August 18 at 12:47 p.m. a Niagara County Sheriff Deputy reported that they had observed a vehicle driving in the Town of Newfane with no license plates and numerous equipment violations.

The black Ford Crown Victoria had been traveling southbound down Lockport-Olcott Road when the deputy initiated a routine traffic stop. Deputies say the driver of the Crown Victoria failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens which then initiated a vehicle pursuit.

Deputies followed the driver through the Town of Wilson, Town of Porter, and the Town of Lewiston. They also attempted to deploy tire deflation devices.

The driver ran into a stop sign and a small fence during the pursuit at the intersection of Ridge Road, and Burch Road. A small mailbox was also hit on Ransomville Road.

The car became disabled soon after, and those in it were taken into custody on the 1100 block of Ridge Road.

The Sheriff's Office identified the driver as 22-year-old Robert W. Crawford II of Cheektowaga. He has been charged with unlawful fleeing of an officer in a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree, resisting arrest, obstruction of Government Administration, reckless driving, criminal mischief in the 4th degree, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, operating a motor vehicle while registration suspended or revoked, and numerous vehicle and traffic citations.

Crawford was taken to the Niagara County Correctional facility where he was processed and released on appearance tickets.
