LOCKPORT, N.Y. — 2 On Your Side has confirmed that a Niagara County Legislator in trouble with the law plans to appear at the Lockport City Police Department next week.
Legislator William Collins Sr. is accused of slashing a truck tire outside Attitudes Bar & Grill on West Avenue in Lockport.
Lockport Police would not release any information to 2 On Your Side including their police report citing it as an active investigation.
However, according to the lawmaker's lawyer, Collins is charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.
Surveillance video appears to show the slashing incident around noon on Thursday, Oct. 26.
The video shows a man on one camera walking up to a truck parked outside Attitudes, pulling something out of his pocket, and popping the front passenger tire of the truck.
On a second camera, the man is seen scurrying across the parking lot, then a third camera shows him getting into a different truck and driving off.
2 On Your Side was told by the owner of the surveillance video and the Bar & Grill that they've turned over the footage to Lockport Police for their investigation. The owner asked not to be identified.
It remains unclear why the tire was slashed.
Collins who is on the ballot for re-election come Tuesday in Niagara County's 10th legislative district has not returned any phone calls or emails seeking comment.
His attorney George Muscato would not comment on the charge against his client and said Collins is out of town on a pre-planned trip.
Muscato added: "I have spoken to the police department and when my client returns we are planning on appearing at the Lockport City police department Wednesday."
