'It was found that she was mistreating children' 3rd daycare employee facing child endangerment charges

22-year-old Alexis Cleveley has been charged with 3-counts of child endangerment and is due in court Tuesday December, 19.

NEWFANE, N.Y. — In September, two employees at 'Sweet Angels' daycare in Newfane were accused of endangering the welfare of children. Now, a third employee has been added to the case on similar charges.

On December 15, 22-year-old Alexis Cleveley was charged with 3-counts of child endangerment by New York State Police

Last fall, 22-year-old Victoria Stanton and 66-year-old Karon Anterline were charged with endangering the welfare of a child while working as employees at 'Sweet Angels'.

Stanton was charged with 2 counts, and Anterline was charged with 1 count.

Two on Your Side asked New York State Police Public Information Officer Trooper James O'Callaghan about Cleveley being added to the case as a third suspect. O'Callaghan said, "As the investigation continued, it was found that she was mistreating children in a manner that is endangering their welfare."

Cleveley has been issued an appearance ticket and will appear in court on December 19 alongside Anterline.

New York State Police in Lockport received the initial complaints back in February regarding possible abusive treatment at Sweet Angels Daycare. Investigators said that the women allegedly used excessive force while dealing with children.

The daycare has also announced that it will be permanently closing at the end of the month.

A representative for the daycare issued the following statement:

“Sweet Angels Daycare has made the difficult decision to close our Newfane location effective December 29, 2023. We have made the parents and caregivers of the approximately 25 children who attended daycare at Newfane aware of the decision to close."

They also went on to say “This decision was not made lightly but given recent developments, including charges filed against former employees as well as demographic and staffing challenges, the operations at Newfane simply became unfeasible."

We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
