ARCADE, N.Y. — Charges are pending against a Tonawanda man involved in a motorcycle crash that prompted a Mercy Flight response.
The crash happened shortly past 6 p.m. Wednesday on State Route 98 in the Town of Arcade. That's where, according to the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office, a northbound 2019 Nissan Altima stopped in traffic while waiting to turn west onto Genesee Road.
Edward P. Schunk, a 41-year-old man from Tonawanda, was also heading north on a 1993 Honda motorcycle. The sheriff's office said that based on evidence at the scene and statements by the drivers, Schunk failed to see the Nissan in time and drove into the back of the vehicle.
"The motorcycle operator was partially pinned under the rear of the Nissan, and he was flown by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries," the sheriff's office said in a statement Thursday.
The person driving the Nissan was not injured.
Officials found Schunk at fault for the crash. He "was also found to have a non-driver identification card only, with 14 active suspensions and/or revocations," the sheriff's office said, adding that charges are pending.
