STAFFORD, N.Y. — A man was arrested and charged with burglary, robbery and grand larceny in connection to a November incident in Genesee County.
In November, 2 On Your Side reported that a 76-year-old man Town of Stafford said he only had seconds to figure out how to defend himself and his wife from someone he feared was about to kill them both.
The man shot the intruder, who had forced his way into the house.
On Thursday, that man was arrested upon his release from the hospital.
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office says the man, 36-year-old Charles Cooper of Lodi, in Seneca County, used a metal revolver pellet gun to threaten homeowners and stole more than $3,000 in cash.
The sheriff's office said the man targeted that Clinton Street Road residence.
Cooper allegedly forced his way into the home, using the pellet gun. He was shot during the break-in, however, and was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for treatment of his wounds.
The incident happened at around 9 p.m. when the man and his wife of 50 years sat in their home, watching television, when there was a knock at the door.
Cooper had been in the hospital since the November 5 incident, and he was arrested Thursday upon his release.
Cooper was arraigned Thursday in Town of Stafford Court. His next court appearance will be on January 7. He's being held in the Genesee County Jail on $50,000 bond.
