Arrest made after Lucille Ball statues vandalized

Police allege that 42-year-old Howard L. McAvoy damaged the property in the park after a review of the security footage.

CELORON, N.Y. — Town of Ellicott Police have made an arrest in connection to the vandalism of two statues of legendary actress/comedienne Lucille Ball.

Police allege that 42-year-old Howard L. McAvoy damaged the property in the park after a review of the security footage. They executed an arrest warrant for McAvoy without incident Friday.

McAvoy is charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, which is a class D felony. He was taken to Chautauqua County Jail and awaits arraignment.

Both the statue known as "Scary Lucy," and the new one unveiled three years ago were marked up with a blue marker. The statues are on display in Celoron Park in the town.

Police say a bathroom at the park was also vandalized.
