BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Lancaster man was sentenced to five years of probation Tuesday for stealing nearly $173K in pay from a former boss.
George Bonnes pleaded guilty on May 7 to a Class 'C' felony of grand larceny in the Second Degree. He agreed to pay back the money to his former employer, but so far, Bonnes hasn't.
State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek sentenced Boones to serve probation, even though the Erie County DA's office recommended prison.
Investigators say from 2018 to 2022, Boones was working as an information technology specialist subcontractor for a medical office in Amherst. He submitted several fake invoices hours to his boss. An audit showed he stole $172,954.95 in payments for work he didn't actually do.
Bonnes will have to make payments to the old employer at a rate and amount that probation will decide from his financial situation.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brian P. Dassero of the Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau.
