BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Jury has found a Buffalo man guilty of murder and other counts in a 2022 homicide.
Joel Coleman, 42, was found guilty of one count of Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and one count of Menacing in the Second Degree. The verdict came after three hours of deliberating following a two-week trial.
Investigators say Coleman shot and killed Nicholas D. Petroski, 34, with an illegal gun on September 20, 2022. The shooting happened inside Petroski's home on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo. Petroski was shot in the neck and died at the scene.
According to officials, Coleman pointed a gun at a second victim, which placed that victim in fear of physical injury.
Coleman faces up to 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced in November. He remains held without bail.
A co-defendant in the case was accused of assaulting the second victim during the incident. Azaliyah A. Serrano, 24, of Kenmore pleaded guilty to one count of Assault in the Second Degree. Serrano was sentenced to two years in prison last year.
