JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Jamestown man is facing charges after being accused of shaking and strangling an 8-month-old child.
The charges faced by 26-year-old Sean L. Thomas include strangulation, assault, and endangering the welfare of a child following incidents that happened Monday.
Jamestown Police and Fire crews responded around 5:42 p.m. Monday to a northside address for a report of an 8-month-old child who was not breathing. The child was taken to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital to be treated for what were described as life-threatening injuries.
Police say Thomas "caused serious physical injuries to the child by shaking and then strangling it." The child is currently listed in critical condition.
"As the investigation continues to develop, the Jamestown Police Department is continuing to work closely with the Chautauqua County District Attorney's Office on this investigation. Further charges are expected," Jamestown Police said Thursday night.
