BUFFALO, N.Y. — An investment banker sentenced to jail for stealing money from two clients.

Damian Baird, 52, of Clarence, was sentenced to a year in jail on July 10 in Erie County Court.

According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, between February and March 2023, Baird stole $153,503 from four accounts that belonged to two of his clients. Investigators say  Baird deposited the clients’ checks into his personal bank account rather than their investment account.

The investigation began after one of the clients got a notice that their investment account had not been funded and that the check had been changed to be paid to Baird.

Baird pleaded guilty to four counts of Grand Larceny in March.  He was also ordered to pay back the full amount to his victims. As of July 17, none of the money has been paid back, according to the district attorney's office.

Baird is not a US citizen, and police note that he is expected to be deported back to the UK after his jail sentence is served.
