Gillibrand, Buffalo Police vow to continue to crack down on gun trafficking

The bipartisan Safer Communities Act has been used to prosecute 6 gun traffickers and seize 30 illegal guns in Buffalo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand joined Buffalo officials on Friday to announce continuing efforts in the fight against gun trafficking.

As of this month, the bipartisan Safer Communities Act has gotten over 3,000 illegal guns off the streets, with 1,000 of those were seized in the last six months.

"We talk about gun safety. We talk about safety and reducing violent crime, and how do you do that? You have to get guns that are illegally possessed off the street," Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said Friday.

"Our intelligence detectives and our uniformed officers at the Buffalo Police Department, they work hand in glove every single day with our local state and federal agencies."

The statute has been used to prosecute six gun traffickers and seize 30 illegal guns in Buffalo.
