BATAVIA, N.Y. — New York Governor Kathy Hochul is directing flags on all state buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of fallen Genesee County Sheriff's Sergeant Thomas A. Sanfratello.
Sgt. Sanfratello died following what investigators called a "very violent" resisting arrest encounter from "physically combative" suspects on March 10 at the Batavia Downs casino.
“From the Town Board to the Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Thomas A. Sanfratello dedicated his life to improving the lives of his neighbors and protecting his community,” Governor Hochul said in a statement. “My heart goes out to Sergeant Sanfratello’s family and loved ones. May the courage he showed throughout a lifetime of service be a comfort to those he leaves behind.”
Calling hours are being held for Sgt. Sanfratello on Friday, March 15 from 2pm-8pm at the Call Arena, Genesee Community College, 1 College Road, Batavia, NY 14020. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 16 11:00am-12pm
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy; his children, Ian, Kyla and Alexis; and several other family and friends.
