Fredonia Police investigating Econo Lodge shooting

The Fredonia Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened on Monday night in the Village of Fredonia at an Econo Lodge.

FREDONIA, N.Y. — On Monday, August 20 at 8:20 p.m. Fredonia Police reported that they received a call regarding a man that had been shot at the Econo Lodge in the Village of Fredonia.

Police said that once they arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been shot in the leg and needed medical treatment. A tourniquet was applied to the man's leg to control the bleeding, and he was transported to ECMC by Fredonia Fire & Rescue for further critical care. 

Witnesses at the scene were able to give information to North County Law Enforcement, and Fredonia Police located the suspect soon after. A nearby car with 3 occupants had been discovered by Fredonia Police and deemed the suspects' car. 

An arrest was made, and the suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Luis R. Kuilan-Del Hoyo. 

Kuilan-Del Hoyo was charged with assault in the 2nd degree. He was transported to Centralized Arraignment and is being held in Mayville pending his arraignment.

An investigation is still on-going and additional charges are pending.
