COHOCTON, N.Y. — An Allegany County man was involved in a fatal rollover crash that happened Wednesday in Steuben County.

The crash happened around 4:55 p.m. Wednesday on State Route 371, near State Route 21, in the Town of Cohocton. That's where New York State Police say a northbound 2017 Dodge Caravan on State Route 371 attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

The driver of that vehicle, 31-year-old Lukas J. Ellsessor of Angelica, lost control of the Dodge, which left the roadway before rolling over. A passenger, identified as a 26-year-old man, was ejected and was declared dead at the scene.

Ellsessor was treated for minor injuries at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The Atlanta Fire Department, Cohocton police and fire departments, and Hornell and Kanona departments of transportation assisted state police at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
