2 deputies injured after separate incidents at Erie County Holding Center

Both incidents happened after men being held at the center were going to be taken to the medical unit to be evaluated.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two separate incidents that led to deputy injuries at the Erie County Holding Center ended with arrests this week.

The first incident happened around 11 a.m. Wednesday, when 34-year-old Kyle Williams was being taken to medical unit to be evaluated.

"Williams became combative and attempted to pull away from deputies, causing them to force him to the ground," the Erie County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Saturday.

A deputy reported injuries to his right arm and elbow, and was later evaluated at Erie County Medical Center. Williams was charged with obstructing governmental administration and remained at the holding center.

A search of the New York State electric court filing system on Saturday showed that Williams was arrested on Sept. 23. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 25, and he does have a defense attorney.

The second incident happened around 11 a.m. Thursday, when 34-year-old Darius Kadenhead reported chest pain. When a deputy unlocked a gate so that Kadenhead could be taken to the medical unit, the sheriff's office said "Kadenhead spit at the deputy and began to throw closed-fist punches" at the deputy’s head and shoulders.

That deputy received treatment at ECMC for injuries to a hand and his left shoulder.

Kadenhead faces new charges for attempted assault and harassment, and he too remains at the holding center.

A search of the New York State electric court filing system on Saturday showed that his next court date is scheduled for Nov. 6 and that he does have a defense attorney.
