Drugs discovered inside an inmate's prosthetic leg

"The paper contained a green leafy substance, suspected to be K2 spice," the Erie County Sheriff's Office said in a statement, announcing the arrest.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A substance suspected to be synthetic marijuana was discovered inside an inmate's prosthetic leg.

A routine search of the Gulf Housing area was conducted Thursday at the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden, where staff uncovered a folded-up piece of paper inside the prosthetic leg of 39-year-old Gregorio Chevere.

"The paper contained a green leafy substance, suspected to be K2 spice," the Erie County Sheriff's Office said Thursday in a statement, announcing the arrest.

The Narcotics and Intelligence Unit was called in, and Chevere, from Buffalo, was later charged with one felony count of possession of dangerous contraband in prison.

Chevere remains in custody at the Erie County Correctional Facility and awaits arraignment.
