Buffalo Police arrest man accused of sexually assaulting a woman on Hertel Avenue

The suspect told the victim that he had a gun and then forced himself upon her.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Police arrested a suspect Tuesday, December 26, on charges related to a sexual assault reported earlier this month.

According to police, the 28-year-old man approached a woman at 1:00 a.m. on the 1900 block of Hertel Avenue on December 9.

A press release from police says, "The man told the victim he had a gun and forced himself on her. The victim was eventually able to run away and get help."

The female victim was taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital by ambulance, where she was treated and released. The victim did not know her assailant. 

The Buffalo Police Special Victim's Unit immediately began an investigation assisted by the Erie County District Attorney's Special Victim Bureau. Together, they were able to identify the suspect 48 hours after the incident was reported. 

The suspect, identified as Rickey Roberts, has been charged with one count of rape in the 1st degree and criminal sexual act in the 1st degree.
