NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. — The Niagara County Sheriff's Office shared in a press release on Sunday, May 26 that they made a Leandra's Law arrest.
On Sunday afternoon a deputy had noticed a car traveling down Military road making abrupt lane changes, and failing to use their signals. The driver Mekhi Miller, 20, of Niagara Falls had been driving under the influence with a one year old, and 8 month old in the car. Both children were also not properly restrained by a seatbelt or car seat.
Following an investigation at the scene Miller was arrested and taken to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office where he was envaulted by a drug recognition expert. Miller has been charged with driving while impaired by drugs, aggravated driving while intoxicated, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and multiple traffic violations which include --
- Improper child restraint
- Improper turn signal
- Moving from lane unsafely
At the time of the arrest the two children were turned over to a family member.
Miller has been remanded to the Niagara County Jail where he awaits a centralized arraignment.
