BUFFALO, NY- An Erie County employee has been arrested on a drug charge and is also charged with stealing county property, county sheriff Tim Howard announced Wednesday.

Randy Rettig, a senior computer programmer with the Erie County Department of Information and Support Services, was arrested after a traffic stop for driving under the influence of drugs, as well as other vehicle and traffic violations, the sheriff's office says.

After searching Rettig's vehicle, deputies say they found county property and cocaine.

Rettig has been charged with petit larceny, possession of stolen property and a drug charge. Rettig has also been placed on administrative leave by Erie County.

Rettig was transported to Erie County Holding Center, where the sheriff's office says he is awaiting arraignment in Buffalo City Court, followed by an appearance in Amherst Town Court.

The sheriff's office says their investigation is continuing, and that further charges are possible.
