ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The New York Yankees have no shortage of championship rings, but U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say the ones they recently seized are fraudulent.
The federal agency on Thursday announced that Super Bowl, World Series, NBA, and NCAA items were seized last month at the Rochester Port of Entry for bearing counterfeit trademarks. Mini championship trophies and rings were among the items confiscated, valued at roughly $9,000.
Seized Super Bowl rings featured logos of the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, New York Giants, New England Patriots, and the team now known as the Washington Commanders.
Other rings celebrated the World Series (New York Yankees), NBA championships (Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls), and even the men's NCAA basketball tournament (Syracuse University).
"Our officers continue to play a critical role in protecting the consumer from counterfeit items," Rochester Port Director Ronald Menz said in a statement, announcing the seized items.
"Counterfeiters scam consumers into buying low quality replicas online. Our officers diligently work to protect the American consumer by intercepting this illegitimate merchandise."
