ALBANY, N.Y. — Following a hearing last month, a judge issued a seven-day sentence for a convicted killer who cut off his ankle monitor and escaped from supervised housing back in July.
Edward Kindt was convicted and sentenced to prison for the Mother's Day rape and strangulation death of Penny Brown in Salamanca in 1999. He was granted parole by a state panel in March of last year.
After escaping, Kindt was found days later, in Salamanca, at a family member's home and arrested for violating his parole.
A statement from the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision ion Thursday said, "Following a final hearing on August 15, 2024, today Administrative Law Judge Marasa rendered the decision of a seven day sentence for Mr. Kindt. The defendant has been in custody since before the final hearing in August and so the seven day sentence has been satisfied. Preparations are being made for Mr. Kindt’s release back to Dutchess County where he will be placed back on GPS monitoring and closely supervised."
