Town of Clarence reports a rise in car-thefts

The Town of Clarence is actively investigating incidents of car theft and reminding residents to take necessary precautions.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — In recent weeks, the Town of Clarence has seen an increase in vehicle thefts and break-ins. Now the Town Supervisor's Office is reminding residents to take essential precautions to keep yourself and your car safe.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating incidents of recent car thefts and break-ins, in addition to increasing the number of patrols in affected areas.

The offices of both the Town Supervisor and Erie County Sheriff advise residents to take these actions to enhance the security of your vehicle and personal belongings:

  • Always lock your vehicle: Ensure that your car doors are locked and that all windows are closed before leaving your vehicle unattended.
  • Remove valuables: Avoid leaving valuable items such as electronics, wallets, or personal identification in plain sight inside your car. If you must leave items in your vehicle, secure them in the trunk or another hidden compartment.
  • Check your surroundings: Be aware of your surroundings when parking your vehicle. Choose well-lit and populated areas whenever possible, and consider leaving your outdoor lights.
  • Report suspicious activity: If you observe any suspicious behavior or activity around vehicles, promptly report it to the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

"The public’s cooperation and attention to these precautions play a vital role in reducing crime and maintaining the quality of life in our town,” Town Supervisor Patrick Casilio said in a press release.

The Erie County Sherriff's Office can be reached at (716)-858-7618. An incident of car-theft can be reported online at  crime.erie.gov/bpd.
