Child struck by bullet while playing outside in Olean

An 11-year-old was hit with a bullet while playing in their yard Tuesday night in Olean. Police investigating the incident.

OLEAN, N.Y. — City of Olean Police are currently investigating a shooting that has left an 11-year-old wounded. 

Officers responded to a call of shots fired Tuesday on Seneca Avenue near N. Clark Street at 6:15 p.m. The caller told police a child had been hit with a bullet while playing outside. 

An 11-year-old child was treated by Olean Fire Department for a gunshot wound to his leg and transported to the hospital.

The Criminal Investigation Unit is currently investigating the incident and asking that anyone with information call them. 

On the Olean Police Department's Facebook page, they posted a video of a truck that may have been involved, and are looking for help in identifying the owner.

Patrols responded to a report of gunshots on the 1300 block of Seneca Ave. last night at approximately 6: 15 p.m.. Police were notified that a 11 year old child had been struck by a bullet while playing outside. Olean City Fire responded and transported the 11 year old to the hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg. The Criminal Investigation unit is currently working on this incident and we are looking for any information from witnesses or anyone who may know the owner of the truck in this video.
