Cheektowaga woman indicted, faces vehicular manslaughter charges

Alondra Ramirez-Santiago could spend years behind bars if convicted of vehicular manslaughter. A Lockport mother was killed.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Alondra Ramirez-Santiago, 24, is accused of driving drunk and speeding on Transit Road in February.

An Erie County grand jury has now indicted the Cheektowaga woman with one felony count of aggravated vehicular homicide and one felony count of vehicular manslaughter.

Prosecutors say Ramirez-Santiago was allegedly driving southbound on Transit Road when she caused a crash with another vehicle driven by Jennifer Hylkema, 51, of Lockport. Her teen son was treated for minor injuries.

The defendant is accused of recklessly driving a vehicle, without the headlights on and at a high-rate of speed while under the influence of alcohol.

Ramirez-Santiago is scheduled to return on Wednesday, July 24. If convicted she faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in state prison.
