CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Cheektowaga Police are investigating a shooting death that happened late Saturday afternoon on Cedar Road.
The shooting happened shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday. That's when Cheektowaga Police public safety dispatchers received 911 calls about a shooting on Cedar Road.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found 20-year-old MDrawnaq Ratin of Cheektowaga, who had a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were immediately performed. Ratin was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where he was later declared dead.
"One of the 911 callers identified himself as the person who fired the gun and waited for police to arrive at the scene," police said Sunday in a statement.
Police said they are in possession of the gun that they believe was used in this shooting. They also launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting, or possesses video evidence of the shooting, is urged to call the Cheektowaga Police Detective Bureau at 716-686-3510.
"We are urging members of our community to remain patient and calm as we work to collect and process evidence from the scene of the homicide," Cheektowaga Police said.
