Chautauqua County man pleads guilty to role in cold case murder, kidnapping

A man from Falconer pleaded guilty to aiding a kidnapping in a 2014 cold-case murder.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A man from Chautauqua County pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting kidnapping in a 2014 cold-case murder.

According to the U.S. District Attorney's Office, Anthony Neubauer, 38, of Falconer, along with Matthew Rudy, was accused of kidnapping Joseph Anthony on May 27, 2014.

Neubauer and Rudy tricked Anthony into traveling from Jamestown to Rudy’s property in Pennsylvania with an offer of cocaine, before shooting and killing him, and burying him on the property.

Neubauer will now face an up to 20-year sentence in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for January 15, 2025. 

Rudy was previously convicted and is also awaiting sentencing.
