MAYVILLE, N.Y. — The Chautauqua County Clerk's Office has retracted its warning to residents about a property scam. This reversal comes after the county issued a warning about offers to buy property coming in by mail earlier this summer.
On Wednesday, the clerk's office put out a notice that the warning had been withdrawn.
The warning had initially gone out for a company called Admiral Realty LLC that was mailing notices to residents and offering to buy their property.
The clerk's office issued the following statement about the retraction:
After reviewing updated information, the news release “County Clerk Warns of Residential Property Scam,” published on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, regarding Admiral Realty LLC and owner Donald Kidd of Miami, Florida, is being retracted.
In the original media release, the Chautauqua County Clerk warned of a possible property scam. After reviewing updated information, the news release is being retracted.
The Clerk’s Office is always concerned and watchful for potential scams. Concerned citizens should contact the Clerk’s Office at (716) 753-4331 or their personal legal counsel with questions or concerns.
The Chautauqua County Media Information Officer Justin Gould told 2 On Your Side that the County Clerk "had a mixup of information," which Gould characterized as "a mistake of fact as to the nature of the company."
The issue was reviewed by the county law department, and attorney Todd Thomas said, "It is a real company engaged in business. There are no violations related to county ordinances."
