The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) say they have arrested Lynn M. Hall, 48 of Castile, N.Y. Tuesday, for allegedly trying to kill the Wyoming County Sheriff with a knife.
Police say Hall was tailgating and flashing his lights at Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory Rudolph early Tuesday morning on State Route 238, as he was on his way to work.
Sheriff Rudolph says he pulled over to see if Hall needed help, when Hall pulled in front and blocked him.
Police say Hall got out of his car, met Sheriff Rudolph at the door of his police vehicle, and started a physical altercation. Hall allegedly tried to get Sheriff Rudolph's gun, as they both continued to struggle to the ground at the side of the road. Hall ended up on top of the Sheriff with a knife threatening to kill him.
Sheriff Rudolph says he recognized Hall as someone who had just applied for a pistol permit, and came to the office just the day before.
During the fight, police say two civilian newspaper deliverers stopped and helped the Sheriff, along with an off-duty New York State Trooper.
Hall was handcuffed and taken into custody. He is now at the Livingston County Correctional Facility with no bail, facing 1st degree Attempted Murder, 1st degree attempted Assault and Criminal Possession of a Weapon charges.
Sheriff Rudolph was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
