Canadian man arrested after police pursuit, successful use of tire deflation device

The chase began when a white BMW sedan was observed traveling at 91 mph in a 45 mph zone, police said.

PENDLETON, N.Y. — A Canadian man was arrested after allegedly driving at excessive speeds across Niagara County early Saturday.

Daniel Ganko, a 20-year-old from Ontario, was held for arraignment on misdemeanor charges that include fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and reckless driving. He also faces numerous traffic violations.

The police pursuit — which began in Pendleton, traveled through Cambria, then ended in Lewiston — began at 1:52 a.m. Saturday, when a Niagara County Sheriff's Office patrol attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

A white BMW sedan was observed traveling at 91 mph in a 45 mph zone.

"Patrols could not safely catch up to the vehicle and the area was checked," the sheriff's office said.

A second traffic stop was attempted at Campbell Boulevard and Lockport Road, but again, "the pursuit was terminated multiple times due to excessive speed."

After a countywide collaboration of law enforcement agencies, the pursuit ended in Lewiston, where police successfully used a tire deflation device at Saunders Settlement Road and Miller Road.
