During the investigation officers found an illegal rifle with a pistol grip, and detachable magazine.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A former bus driver who was working in the City of Buffalo has pleaded guilty to one count of endangering the welfare of a child and has been sentenced to a one-year condition discharge.

Michael Askew, a 68-year-old Cheektowaga man had made verbal threats to a student back in April while working as a bus driver in the city. The incident occurred in the 300 block of Rochester Avenue.

After an investigation was launched by the City of Buffalo Police Department, officers were able to obtain a temporary 'Extreme Risk Protection Order' (ERPO).

During the investigation, officers found an illegal rifle with a pistol grip and detachable magazine inside Askew's home on Woodridge Avenue in the Town of Cheektowaga.

Along with the illegal rifle, and thanks to the ERPO 3 handguns were also taken from the bus driver's home. Askew was indicted at the time on 2-felony gun charges which were dismissed as a part of his plea agreement reached Tuesday in court.

A final order of protection has been issued for the victim, as well as for 2 other students who were witnesses during the incident.
